Just what I wanted

I have been meaning to add a gsm dialer to my home alarm for more than 10 years now. I decided that having taken it off of maintenance, I would make the changes that I want. I found this module and have installed it. Installation could have been easier - the instructions for this particular model do not include anything about connecting - wire colours etc. I am VERY please with the result.Geoff M (24 Apr 2020, 09:54)

This product range is exceptional

I installed a DIY alarm system some time ago which has proved itself to be very reliable. However, against my better judgment, l paid megabucks 4 years ago to a have professional monitored system installed by a company called Rancom. This has been a disaster, with numerous false alarms and system unreliability. Finally, i literally pulled the plug on the system, and reverted to my old trustworthy system. So I have been searching for something that I could add to it that would contact my phone if the alarm was activated. After having tried a few systems that looked promising, they mostly failed either by being too big, needing a landline connection, or failing to work at all. I eventually realised that I needed a GSM solution that could be fitted inside the original alarm box, so being invisible to my wife's critical eye. I eventually homed in to Electronic Alerts range of modules, With no reviews to convince me that this was the way to go, I relied on my intuation as a retired electronics design engineer and purchased the Call and SMS module for evaluation. I could not be more impressed. Initial testing showed it to be very well thought out, with all options and programming details being easily achieved by sending simple text messages to the number allocated to the SIM card. In fact,I have to say that the most confusing aspect was in getting the SIM card to be activated for the first time but this could be down to a combination of impatience and senior moments. In any event, within the hour, all bench testing was complete, and the unit passed with flying colours. I am delighted with it, and am now contemplating buying more for use in a solar powered shed alarm, my greenhouse temperature monitoring, and car protection. These units are just so adaptable, and consume so little power, that applications seem endless. But, as with everything in life, there has to be a downside. In the case of the installation instructions relative to my unit, they failed to mention the functions of the different coloured wires, or the modes of the two trigger wires. This was overcome by reading the manuals of its peer products that contained these important details. Just a small point, but it slightly tarnished my otherwise glowing impression of these superb modules. If you are looking for a similar functionality that I did, then this company's products will delight you. There are even modules with relay outputs, which expands their applications enormously.Jeff Caunter (14 Nov 2019, 20:33)
